Meet the Farmers
Elizabeth grew up in Southern Indiana where farms where aplenty. Her family themselves came from a line of farmers, not surprisingly most of which included soybean and corn. They also raised cattle, sheep, pigs off an on, three spunky horses, lots of dogs, and a few barn cats. She moved to Kentucky where she met her husband, Greg. Greg was a small-town boy from Wisconsin who knew very little about the ag community, other than - of course - dairy cattle. After they got married and had three beautiful children, they could no longer ignore the calling of returning to the land. It started out small as they moved rather frequently - got a few dogs in Kentucky, started a small (rather unsuccessful) garden in Arkansas, expanded quickly into a large garden in Alabama and started making pickles, salsa, and more, to happily stumbling across an orchard here in Southern Indiana where they could finally come back home.
The Story Behind The Orchard
Greg and Elizabeth bought their log home in 2023, which came with just over 280 surviving apple trees. The trees were grown up in brush, limbs breaking off, apples and leaves covered in disease, and apples strewn about, just rotting on the ground. Still, it called to us and seeing our middle son run freely in the orchard with his eyes lit up sealed the deal for us. Somebody had done the hard labor of preparing the land, purchasing trees, planting (and replanting) the trees, pruning and training the limbs, and we wanted to honor the love and hard work that was obviously originally poured into our orchard. Since then, we have worked nonstop to bring our orchard to its highest potential. We have a great respect for the trees and the soil from which they come and have chosen to use only natural products on our produce to reduce any negative impact to our environment. While we are focusing on our apple production and products such as apple butter, applesauce, and cider, we also grow fresh produce such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, melons, and more. We are tentatively planning to add pumpkins this fall and open the U-pick portion next year. While we have wandered from home to home throughout the years, we have finally established our roots here and cannot wait to share our beautiful orchard with all of you!
